SLRSA ED James Bio Breaks Silence!
By Alusine Day Break
The Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA), James Baggie Bio, has broken his silence over the growing fake driver’s licence scandal, exposing what he described as an organised syndicate allegedly involved in the production and circulation of fraudulent driver’s licences in Sierra Leone.
Speaking during the ‘Good Morning Salone’ programme, ED James Baggie Bio provided details of the alleged operation, explaining how the network reportedly operated from an internet café before extending its activities beyond Sierra Leone to China, where the suspects allegedly obtained software used to produce counterfeit driver’s licences.
According to the SLRSA Executive Director, investigations into the matter have exposed a disturbing pattern of activities involving individuals who allegedly sought to undermine the country’s road safety and driver’s licensing system.
He explained that the alleged syndicate was not simply an isolated operation but involved a process through which fake licences were reportedly produced using specialised software. The revelation has raised serious concerns about the activities of criminal networks attempting to exploit weaknesses in the country’s licensing system for personal and financial gain.
Suspects Charged To Court
Providing further clarification, James Baggie Bio disclosed that the individuals arrested in connection with the alleged fake licence operation have been charged to court to answer to the allegations against them.
He also strongly clarified that those arrested in connection with the scandal are not employees or staff members of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority.
This clarification is particularly important as the scandal has generated public concern and questions about the possible involvement of officials within the institution.
The ED’s statement seeks to distinguish the alleged criminal activities of the suspects from the legitimate operations of the Authority, while allowing the judicial process to establish individual responsibility.
SLRSA Reaffirms Commitment To Road Safety
The fake driver’s licence scandal has once again brought the integrity of Sierra Leone’s driver’s licensing system into the national conversation.
A driver’s licence is not merely a document; it is an official certification that an individual has met the necessary requirements to operate a motor vehicle. The circulation of counterfeit licences therefore poses serious concerns for road safety, law enforcement and public confidence in the country’s transport regulatory institutions.
The alleged activities, if proven, could undermine efforts to ensure that only qualified and authorised individuals are permitted to drive on Sierra Leone’s roads.
Under the leadership of James Baggie Bio, the SLRSA is expected to continue strengthening its monitoring systems, protecting the integrity of official licences and working with law enforcement agencies to address fraudulent activities.
Public Urged To Report Fake Licence Activities
The Executive Director has also provided a public contact number for individuals who wish to make complaints, report suspected fraudulent licensing activities or provide relevant information to the Authority.
Members of the public can call 080879753 to lodge complaints and report concerns relating to fake driver’s licences.
The public is encouraged to obtain driver’s licences through the officially recognised channels and avoid individuals or groups promising shortcuts to secure official documents.
As the matter proceeds through the courts, the public will be watching closely to see how the authorities address the alleged syndicate and protect the credibility of Sierra Leone’s driver’s licensing system.
For the SLRSA, the message is clear: the fight against fake driver’s licences is essential to protecting the integrity of the institution and ensuring safer roads for all Sierra Leoneans.
