Veteran politician and APC stalwart Hon. Alimamy ‘Petito’ Koroma has called on all members of the All People’s Congress to prioritize peace and unity as the party prepares for its 2026 National Delegates’ Convention.

Speaking to journalists in Freetown on Friday, Hon. Koroma, who is contesting for the position of National Chairman, said the party’s strength lies in its ability to speak with one voice despite internal differences.

“The APC is bigger than any individual. As we head towards 2026, what our people need from us is not division, but leadership that brings us together,” Hon. Koroma stated. “I am offering myself as Chairman not to divide, but to heal, to reconcile, and to reposition our great party for victory.”

Hon. Koroma noted that political contests are natural in democratic parties, but warned that bitterness and personal attacks must not override the party’s collective goal of serving Sierra Leoneans.

He urged all aspirants, supporters, and regional executives to embrace dialogue and avoid rhetoric that could deepen factionalism.

“We can contest vigorously and still respect each other. We can disagree on ideas without destroying relationships. That is the APC culture I grew up in, and that is the culture I will defend as Chairman,” he said.

According to Hon. Koroma, his chairmanship agenda will focus on three pillars: party restructuring, youth and women empowerment, and electoral preparedness for 2028.

He emphasized that peace within the APC is the foundation for regaining public trust and winning future elections.

“Without peace, there is no progress. Without unity, there is no victory. My campaign is a campaign for all APC members — from the grassroots to the national executive,” he added.

Party executives and supporters across the 16 districts have begun receiving his message of reconciliation, with many describing his intervention as “timely and statesmanlike” ahead of the convention.
