The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Mr. Swalihu K. Jusu has formally presented the new Executive Director of the National Sports Authority, Mohamed Alphaka Conteh, Esq., to the Chinese Embassy in Freetown on Thursday, 17th June 2026.
Presenting the Executive Director on behalf of the Minister of Sports, PS Jusu said it is standard practice for the Ministry to introduce new NSA Executive Directors to the Chinese Embassy, given China’s status as a key partner in Sierra Leone’s sports development.
Discussions during the presentation focused on bilateral cooperation, the ongoing stadium rehabilitation project, technical support, and capacity building to staff members, among other areas.
Speaking, Mohamed Alphaka Conteh, Esq., expressed gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for the warm hospitality accorded him and his delegation. “This hospitality is not a surprise. The Chinese are good hosts and they always treat their guests well,” Mr. Conteh said.
Commenting on the stadium rehabilitation project, the NSA Chief encouraged the Chinese partners to fast-track the work. Lawyer Conteh noted the negative impact on the country, stating that the project has elapsed beyond the initial timeframe stipulated in the contract.
The NSA Chief concluded by expressing appreciation on behalf of the National Sports Authority for the Chinese Embassy’s continued support to the sports sector.
Speaking on behalf of the Ambassador and the Embassy, the Economic and Commercial Counsellor Wang Peng congratulated the NSA Chief, welcomed him and his delegation, and assured them of the Embassy’s unwavering support for sports development in the country.
“The Embassy will continue to work closely with the sports sector to improve sports in Sierra Leone,” Wang said.
“We are aware of the challenges the country is facing as a result of the ongoing rehabilitation work. These challenges will soon be a thing of the past, as the facility will meet modern standards,” he assured.
