Stakeholders Visit MUYEA Family Organisation’s Hospital Project Site

The Muyea Family Organization on the 9th April 2026 extended a grand reception to the District Medical Officer (DMO) and his entourage during a visitation to the ongoing hospital project. The delegation included a representative of the Paramount Chief, community members, and chiefs from across the chiefdom.

The visit which drew a large crowd of local residents, was intended to assess progress on the health facility and strengthen collaboration between the organization, traditional authorities, and the District Health Team.

After a guided tour of the construction site, a ceremonial gathering was held during which several key stakeholders delivered remarks.

Mr. Gandeh, representing the Paramount Chief officially opened the speaking program. He conveyed the Paramount Chief’s heartfelt gratitude to the Muyea

Family Organization for their vision and sacrifice. “The Paramount Chief is proud of what he has seen here today. This hospital will save countless lives in our chiefdom. He pledged his full traditional authority to support this project to its completion,” Mr. Gandeh said. He also encouraged community members to protect the site and contribute voluntary labour.

Mr. Ngegba spoke on behalf of all the chiefs present, echoed similar sentiments. He praised the unity between the Muyea Family Organization and the traditional leadership. “We chiefs have waited too long for a modern health facility. Now, that it is rising from the ground, we will not rest. I call on every village head and Section Chief to mobilize their people. Let no one be left behind,” Mr. Ngegba stated. He also appealed to the DMO for ongoing technical oversight.Mr. Jusu, the Community Health Officer (CHO) for Kori Chiefdom, also took the floor. He spoke passionately about the clinical impact the hospital would have. “As a health worker on the ground, I see daily the suffering of our people – pregnant women walking hours, children with high fevers with nowhere to go. This hospital will change that. The Muyea Family Organization has done what governments have promised for decades. I pledge my personal commitment to support the facility once it opens,” Mr. Jusu stated.

Mr. Kamara the District Medical Officer (DMO) for the Moyamba District commended the Muyea Family Organization for the remarkable progress made. He noted the quality of the foundation-the planned maternity wing, and the Isolation Unit. “The district health team is ready to partner with you. We will provide technical guidance, equipment recommendations, and staffing plans when the time comes. This is a model of community-driven development,” the DMO said. He also thanked the traditional leaders and community members for their solidarity and urged them to sustain the momentum and take ownership of the project.

The event concluded with a shared meal and a renewed commitment from all parties to ensure the hospital’s first phase is completed by the end of the year. Residents of Muyea and surrounding villages expressed overwhelming joy, with many describing the day as historic.
