Just after the conclusion of the Games Opening Ceremony, on Thursday, 23rd July, the hardworking Chef De Mission said: “I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation and a big thank you to all the athletes and officials of the Sierra Leone Delegation who took part in the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.”
“I commend each and every one of you for your courage, resilience, discipline, and good behaviour throughout this process. You have represented our beloved country with pride and honour, and we are truly grateful for your commitment and dedication.”
To the athletes and officials who are still on their way to Glasgow, he wished them safe flights and travelling mercies, adding that due to the length-of-stay policy, not every athlete and official was able to be present at the Opening Ceremony.
In his message to the swimmers, Koroma said Sierra Leone is fully behind them and would be cheering them on every step of the way as he wished them the very best in the pool.
He added: “The same best wishes and encouragement to all our athletes in Boxing, Athletics, Track Cycling, and Judo as you prepare to compete. Fight hard, stay focused, and give your very best to the Green, White, and Blue flag of Sierra Leone. We believe in you!”
The Chef De Mission also extends his appreciation to the Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Teima, the Executive Director of National Sports Authority, Mohamed Alphaka Conteh Esq., NOC President, Prince Suallay, Director of Sports, and all other Directors and officials, for their work, leadership, dedication, and unwavering support.
“We look forward to the exciting competitions ahead and wish Team Sierra Leone every success,” he concludes.
