Sports Minister, NSA Executive Director Encourage Team SierraLeone to Compete with Pride

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Sports, Hon.Madam Augusta James-Teima, was at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow today to support the country’s swimmers as they began competition at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Addressing the athletes, the Minister said: 

“I am here representing His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, the Government and the People of Sierra Leone. Compete with pride, strength and resilience as we stand firmly by you.”

The Minister’s visit underscores the Government’s commitment to supporting Sierra Leonean athletes on the international stage. She assured the team of the nation’s full backing as they represent the Green, White and Blue across all 10 sports at Glasgow 2026.

Executive Director of the National Sports Authority Mohamed Alphaka Conteh Esq. who also witnessed Sierra Leone’s swimmers participation joined the Minister to express similar comments and made similar commitments to the athletes and officials.  

Team SierraLeone swimmers are among the first athletes in action as the Games officially opened at OVO Hydro earlier today.
