Auditor-General Urges New Staff to Exhibit Integrity

The Auditor-General of the Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL), Mr. Abdul Aziz, has urged newly recruited staff to uphold integrity, put the interests of the people at the centre of their work and maintain high standards of quality in the discharge of their duties.

The AG made the call on Wednesday, 19th August 2026, during the opening ceremony of a two-week induction programme held at the 9th Floor of the Youyi Building in Freetown.

The induction programme brings together 35 new recruits; 29 staff including Auditors, a Procurement Officer and ICT Officers, and six interns assigned to the Audit Service through the European Union (EU) Internship project

Addressing the participants, the Abdul Aziz emphasised the importance of understanding and adhering to the mandate of the Audit Service. He encouraged them to recognise that their roles carry a significant responsibility to the people of Sierra Leone, particularly in promoting accountability, transparency and the responsible management of public resources.

He stressed: “integrity is the watchword of the ASSL,” urging the new staff and interns to make integrity the foundation of their professional conduct. He reminded them that the credibility and effectiveness of the Audit Service depend largely on the integrity, independence and professionalism of its personnel.

The Auditor-General further advised the recruits to make the people a key focus of their work, noting that the ultimate purpose of public sector auditing is to contribute to good governance, accountability and improved public service delivery.

He also challenged them to prioritise quality in everything they do, urging them to be diligent, objective and thorough in carrying out their responsibilities. He encouraged the new recruits to continuously learn, seek guidance when necessary and work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve the objectives of the institution.

The Auditor-General urged the 35 entrants to take the two-week induction programme seriously and use the opportunity to gain a clear understanding of ASSL’s mandate, values, policies, procedures and expectations.

The objective of the induction programme is to equip the participants with the knowledge and understanding required to effectively integrate into their respective divisions and contribute meaningfully to the work of the Audit Service.

The Auditor-General’s message to the participants was clear: uphold integrity, serve the people and deliver quality in everything they do.
