To strengthen regional engagement, the National Minerals Agency (NMA) has partnered with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to roll out one-day Ethics training seminars in Makeni, Kono, Bo, and Kenema from September 8–11, 2026.
The training focused on “Upholding Ethics and Integrity in the Workplace.”
Led by NMA Integrity Focal Person Mrs. Nicol, the workshop gathered both newly recruited staff—including engineers, geologists, and compliance officers—and existing personnel serving in the country’s Regional Offices.
Addressing the attendees, Mrs. Nicol emphasized the institution’s strict stance against misconduct, reiterating that the NMA maintains a zero-tolerance policy for corruption. “Any staff member found guilty of a corrupt offense following an internal investigation will face immediate dismissal,” Mrs. Nicol warned. “In applicable cases, individuals will be handed over directly to the Anti-Corruption Commission for further investigation and prosecution.”
The NMA Regional Managers commended the initiative, which aimed to reinforce ethical standards, accountability, and professional conduct across the agency’s operations.
The interactive session provided a platform for staff to discuss practical dilemmas in ethical decision-making, conflict of interest, and identifying workplace corruption vulnerabilities.
Key presentation topics included: Ethical Leadership & Accountability; strategies for fostering transparent workplace cultures; conflict of Interest: Guidelines on maintaining professional impartiality in field operations; corruption prevention and identifying systemic risks and reporting unethical practices.
The joint exercise highlights ongoing efforts by both the NMA and the ACC to enhance institutional integrity, improve public service delivery, and build trust in the regulation of the nation’s mineral sector.
