In a remarkable demonstration of gratitude and commitment to education, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Transport and Aviation, Ambassador Alhaji Fanday Turay Esq., has extended a generous gesture of support to the Methodist Primary School in Segbwema, the institution that laid the foundation for his academic and professional journey decades ago.
The Minister, a proud alumnus of the school, undertook a series of development initiatives aimed at improving learning conditions and expanding opportunities for pupils. His contributions included the refurbishment of existing school structures, the construction of new facilities, the donation of a school marching band, provision of soccer kits, establishment of a modern computer laboratory, and the donation of ten laptop computers to support digital learning.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Ambassador Fanday Turay reflected on the profound impact the school had on his life and the importance of giving back to the institution that helped shape his future.
“I had the privilege of giving back to the primary school that laid the foundation for my journey decades ago,” he stated. “As part of this contribution, I refurbished existing structures, constructed new facilities, donated a school band, provided soccer kits, established a computer lab, and donated 10 laptops. Education transformed my life, and I remain committed to supporting the next generation of Sierra Leoneans. May these investments inspire our children to dream bigger and achieve even greater things.”
The intervention has been widely praised by school authorities, parents, and community leaders, who described the Minister’s support as a significant boost to educational development in Segbwema. The newly established computer laboratory and donated laptops are expected to enhance digital literacy among pupils and better prepare them for a technology-driven future.
Ambassador Alhaji Fanday Turay currently serves as Sierra Leone’s Minister of Transport and Aviation, having been appointed to the position in August 2023. Throughout his public service career, he has consistently emphasized the importance of national development, education, and youth empowerment.
Community stakeholders expressed hope that the Minister’s example would inspire other successful Sierra Leoneans to invest in schools and educational institutions within their home communities.
For the pupils of Methodist Primary School, the Minister’s contribution is more than an infrastructure project, it is a powerful reminder that with education, determination, and hard work, even the most ambitious dreams can become reality.
