The Board Chairman of Cricket Sierra Leone, Francis Trevor Samura has received ICC’s Long Service award during the ongoing ICC Annual Conference in Edinburgh Scotland.
Samura marks the third person to have received this high-level recognition in Sierra Leone, having served Cricket Sierra Leone in various capacities for 20 years, rising through the ranks to becoming the Chairman.
He started working for CSL in 2006 as Assistant Secretary from 2007 to 2012. He then took up the mantle of CEO from 2012 to 2021, working without pay. The year 2021 saw his election to the position of Chairman.
He is the Founder and Owner of Mid-West Cricket Club, which came into being in 2008 with the aim of bringing kids together to play the game through several forms of support. The Club has won the Senior Men’s T20 Cricket Premier League six times and the T20 Super League one time.
He led the securing of an 18-acre land worth five million dollars at the Fourah Bay College. He championed the Sussex land deal donated by the Government to help develop cricket.
He has overseen the training of umpires, coaches, scorers, and curators, ensuring that a qualified workforce is in place as he led a more ambitious school cricket programme for girls where over 400 PHE teachers have been trained to deliver cricket entry-level training programmes.
