-Demands Electoral Justice

Former Samura Kamara, a leading figure of the All People’s Congress (APC), has firmly stated that he is not focused on any 2028 Presidential agenda while critical questions surrounding the 2023 general elections remain unresolved.

In a strong and unequivocal message, Dr. Kamara emphasized that the pursuit of electoral justice is far more important than early political positioning. He noted that the controversies and concerns arising from the 2023 Sierra Leone general election continue to cast a shadow over the country’s democratic integrity, making it premature to shift attention toward future elections.

According to him, the credibility of Sierra Leone’s democratic process must be restored before any meaningful political discourse about 2028 can take place. He stressed that the will of the people must not only be respected but also transparently reflected in electoral outcomes.

Dr. Kamara underscored that the demand for electoral justice remains valid and urgent, particularly in light of widespread calls for reforms. He argued that electoral fraud must be explicitly criminalised, with strong legal consequences for those found culpable. Without such measures, he warned, public trust in the electoral system will continue to erode.

“The struggle is not about personal ambition,” he indicated, “but about safeguarding democracy and ensuring that every vote counts.” His remarks resonate strongly among supporters and civil society groups who have consistently called for accountability, transparency, and institutional reforms in the country’s electoral framework.

Political analysts view Dr. Kamara’s position as a calculated but principled stance, signaling that the APC’s immediate priority lies in addressing perceived injustices rather than engaging in early campaign politics. His statement is also seen as an attempt to rally both party loyalists and broader democratic stakeholders around a common cause — the strengthening of electoral credibility.

As Sierra Leone continues to navigate the aftermath of the 2023 elections, the call for reform remains a central issue in national discourse. Dr. Kamara’s declaration serves as a reminder that, for many, the journey toward the next election cycle cannot begin until the questions of the last one are fully and fairly resolved.
