…Disputes Over Lower Level Elections

Former Ambassador of Sierra Leone to the People’s Republic of China and a member of  the All People’s Congress (APC) party, Hon. Alimamy Petito Koroma, has publicly raised concerns about the internal state of the party, warning that unresolved grievances could result in petitions before or after the party’s forthcoming lower-level elections.

Speaking during an interview on Liberty Online TV on 6 July 2026, the former Ambassador discussed several issues which, according to him, require urgent attention from the party’s national executive. He stressed that unity, transparency, fairness, and adherence to the party’s constitution are essential if the APC is to maintain cohesion and strengthen its prospects ahead of future national elections.

Hon. Koroma explained that many members have expressed concerns regarding the conduct of the party’s internal processes. He argued that these concerns should not be ignored but should instead be addressed through constructive dialogue and institutional mechanisms designed to preserve the integrity of the party.

According to him, the APC leadership has a responsibility to listen to the concerns of members at every level and ensure that all stakeholders are given a fair opportunity to participate in the party’s democratic processes. He emphasized that overlooking legitimate grievances could deepen divisions within the party and undermine efforts aimed at building a united political front.

The former Ambassador further cautioned that if the national executive fails to respond adequately to these concerns, members who believe they have been treated unfairly may resort to filing petitions either before or after the lower-level elections. He maintained that such actions would be intended to seek redress through the party’s established procedures and should not be viewed as an attack on the APC itself.

Hon. Koroma also encouraged the leadership to prioritize reconciliation, consultation, and inclusiveness, noting that a united APC would be better positioned to pursue its political objectives. He stressed that internal democracy and respect for party rules are vital to maintaining members’ confidence and strengthening the party’s credibility.

He concluded by urging the executive to engage with concerned members in good faith and resolve outstanding issues through dialogue rather than allowing disagreements to escalate. According to him, addressing internal concerns promptly would help reinforce party unity and ensure that the lower-level elections are conducted in a manner that inspires confidence among members.

The interview has generated discussion among APC supporters and political observers, with many expected to closely follow how the party’s  leadership responds to the issues raised as preparations for the lower-level elections continue.
