The Race for the Presidency: A Contest of Ideas, Not Money

As the race for the flagbearership of the All People’s Congress (APC) intensifies, it is imperative to remind delegates and stakeholders that the choice of the next flagbearer must be guided by ideas, vision, and leadership qualities, not by the amount of money expended or the manipulation of regional and tribal loyalties. The office of the Presidency is a constitutional trust, and the process of selecting a flagbearer must reflect the highest standards of democratic responsibility.

Principles for Consideration

The next flagbearer must demonstrate a deep understanding of the APC’s structures, constitution, and historical challenges.  Such knowledge ensures continuity, stability, and the ability to strengthen party cohesion.

Leadership requires clarity of thought and articulation.  The flagbearer must present a coherent vision for governance, backed by demonstrable political and administrative experience.

Sierra Leone’s political history has been marred by divisions.  He/She must rise above regionalism and tribalism, embodying unity and inclusivity, both within the APC and across the nation.

Revenue Mobilization and Anti‑Corruption Agenda. A credible candidate must outline practical strategies for increasing domestic revenue and curbing corruption. This is essential for sustainable development and restoring public trust in governance.

Strengthening Democratic Institutions and Rule of Law. The flagbearer must commit to reinforcing constitutional institutions, safeguarding freedom of speech, and ensuring equal rights for all citizens.  Upholding the rule of law and combating lawlessness are non‑negotiable pillars of democratic leadership.

Conviction and Endorsement

I hold the firm conviction that Dr. Ibrahim Bangura embodies these qualities. His vision, knowledge, and political will align with the aspirations of Sierra Leoneans, who yearn for transformation. He represents a leadership that can heal divisions, unite the party, and inspire national progress.

The DIB Movement, Waterloo, therefore calls upon delegates to exercise their constitutional duty with integrity, ensuring that the next flagbearer is chosen not by the weight of money, but by the weight of ideas, principles, and the promise of a better Sierra Leone.
