The Sierra Leone Public Transport Authority (SLPTA) has confirmed that a fire outbreak at the Kissy Bus Depot on the night of Friday, June 5, 2026, destroyed five government-owned buses operating on provincial routes.
According to a public notice issued by the Authority, the fire occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. The affected buses were part of the government’s provincial transport fleet. However, SLPTA clarified that none of the Waka Fine buses were affected by the incident.
The Sierra Leone Fire Force responded promptly to the emergency and successfully contained the blaze before it could spread to other buses and facilities within the depot.
Authorities reported that no injuries or fatalities resulted from the fire.
An investigation has been launched jointly by the Sierra Leone Fire Force and the Sierra Leone Public Transport Authority to determine the cause of the incident. Officials have assured the public that updates will be provided once the investigation is concluded.
SLPTA management commended the swift response of the Fire Force, noting that their intervention prevented what could have been a much larger disaster at one of the country’s major transport facilities.
The incident has raised concerns about safety measures at public transport depots, as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the fire.
